I will be using this page to document some of the work I will be doing towards my MSc dissertation. For this research project I will be working with data from NASA’s Global Ecosystem Dynamics Investigation (GEDI) mission. GEDI is a lidar (light detection and ranging) instrument, which is currently orbiting Earth about 420 km above you on the International Space Station. The GEDI instrument uses lasers to map in three dimensions the surface of Earth, and most importantly the 3-D structure of forests, with the goal of determining how much carbon is contained in all the trees on the planet!
